Silhouette of Angkor Wat and palm trees at sunrise with the sky reflected in the pond

Day 1 of the tour

Angkor Wat

The largest religious monument on earth and the symbol on Cambodia's flag. Built as a Hindu temple to Vishnu and later used by Buddhists, it is still an active place of worship.

Best time: Sunrise (around 5:30–6:15 AM), then explore before the midday heat

Giant smiling stone face on a tower of Bayon Temple

Day 1 of the tour

Bayon Temple

The state temple of King Jayavarman VII at the exact centre of the walled city of Angkor Thom, famous for the serene giant faces carved on its towers.

Best time: Morning, before about 10 AM, when the faces are side-lit

Giant strangler fig roots growing over a stone gallery at Ta Prohm temple

Day 1 of the tour

Ta Prohm

A Buddhist monastery built by Jayavarman VII and left largely as it was found, with giant silk-cotton and strangler fig trees growing out of the stones.

Best time: Early morning or around midday, when big groups are at lunch

The circular stepped pool of Neak Pean with the small island shrine reflected in the calm water

Day 2 of the tour

Neak Pean

A small, elegant temple on a circular island in the middle of a man-made pool, built by Jayavarman VII as a place of healing and purification.

Best time: Morning, when the water is calm and reflective

The stone entrance gateway of Preah Khan temple beyond a paved causeway, surrounded by trees

Day 2 of the tour

Preah Khan

A vast temple-monastery and Buddhist university built by Jayavarman VII to honour his father, with long vaulted corridors that feel like a maze.

Best time: Late morning, when it is often much quieter than Ta Prohm

Intricately carved red sandstone doorway and devata figures at Banteay Srei

Day 2 of the tour

Banteay Srei

A small 10th-century temple to Shiva, carved from rose-pink sandstone with the most delicate decoration in Khmer art. It is often called the "Citadel of Women".

Best time: Early morning or mid-afternoon, when the stone glows pink

Reviews

What travellers say

“We had a wonderful time at Angkor Wat due to our excellent tour guide San. He was prompt, polite, considerate and extremely knowledgeable. He explained in great detail about all the temples. Without San we had just wandered around aimlessly and not got so much out of the wonder that is Angkor Wat. If you are going to Siem Reap and are visiting the temples make it worthwhile and book San.”

“San did an excellent job showing us the highlights of the area and making a small change on the second day for us. He was always on time and we never felt rushed to complete the day. He provided transportation and even waited for us in the hotel lobby. San was friendly and made us feel welcome and safe. I would highly recommend him for individuals all the way to larger groups. You will be well taken care of.”

“Had a great tour with SanPark Angkor today. Started with the Sunrise Tour at Angkor Wat followed by numerous temples. San was very informative and knew how to navigate the temples, avoiding most of the tourists, and showing us more of the things we wanted to see. San was born and raised in Siem Reap and knows his history. Highly recommended!”
